Jack, and his newly purchased Volvo  autoshift conversion.

These pictures are of Jacks Volvo with the frame conversion about 80% Complete. The frame has been square cut 39" behind the back of the  tires. The hitch assembly has been moved back on the frame 8." The battered deck plate sitting on the frame is not the one that will be installed on Jack's Volvo.  The distance from the end of the frame to the back of the sleeper is 124". The overall length, front to back is about 296"

fsjm005.jpg

The full fenders and fender braces have not yet been installed. The fenders are just sitting on the tires.

fsjm007.jpg

The sliding hitch is shown in the rear most location.

fsjm008.jpg

Frame work completed except for attaching the deck plate. The deck plate will be cleaned up.

fsjm009.jpg

All lights are installed and wired.

fsjm010.jpg

All replaced bolts are new class 8 bolts. Empty holes are filled with new bolts as well.

fsjm011.jpg

fsjm012.jpg

All four Accuride polished aluminum wheels are installed. Locking chrome lug nuts hold the aluminum hubcaps tight against the wheel.
When the steel wheels are removed to be replaced,
I clean the hub, pilot bolts, and apply anti-seize liberally to
each pilot bolt, the inner wheel, and each lug nut. I also hand tighten each lug bolt before they use tire guns. I don't like  those big air guns slamming lug nuts against the wheels.

I installed shore power this afternoon.

fsjm015.jpg

The rear hubcaps and lug nuts are installed. Each tire has received one treatment.

Main front and rear brackets have been bolted  to the frame after measuring and drilling. Long top bracket is being fitted in this picture.

jm004.jpg

This picture of the underside of the right hand fuel tank faring did not turn out due to sun glare.

jm005.jpg

Clear picture of the main front and rear bracket installed.

jm006.jpg

Long top bracket in place.

jm007.jpg

jm010.jpg

Finally, Drivers side faring on and splash shield installed.

jm011.jpg

Passenger side faring installed. Splash shield not on on yet, but will be finished today. The discoloration on the faring is grease. The paint matches great.

jm013.jpg

Passenger side rear bracket installation and attachment to rear of faring.

That's it folks.  All the major work is finished on Jacks Volvo. I'll  do the  rest of the stuff myself.

The pictures below show the current stage of conversion for White Lightning.  7-15-03 This evening work will resume on WL. No additional pictures at this time.

jm008.jpg

Side view of White Lightning after rear axle has been moved forward in place.

jm009.jpg

jm002.jpg

Back view of White lightning. Lighting was very poor on these pictures. The frame has been square cut, but can still be bevel cut if necessary.

jm003.jpg

Another poorly lighted view of White Lightning. The full fenders should arrive by tomorrow.

This is my personal (unfinished) Volvo connected to my Alfa Gold. The hitch is in the rearward position here. If I planned to tow any distance, I would have moved the hitch toward the back of the sleeper to provide better air flow.

fsjm003.jpg

I was preparing to tow my Alfa to a trailer sales lot in Missouri where I am leaving it on consignment. I don't have time to mess with selling it myself. Thought I would take a couple of pictures before I left.

fsjm002.jpg

Everything looks pretty level to me.

fsjm001.jpg

This was my first time to tow with any autoshift. It was only 20 miles, but I wasn't disappointed  :-).

That's all.... The end....Larry
